Problem Statement

In modern households, managing refrigerator contents effectively is a common yet underestimated challenge. Perishable items are often forgotten, leading to food waste, financial loss, and environmental impact. Busy lifestyles make it difficult for users to track expiration dates, organize groceries, and plan meals efficiently.

Through extensive research, we discovered five key issues users face with food management:

 1. Forgotten Items: Many users frequently forget about food items stored in their fridge, leading to spoilage and unnecessary waste.
 2. Lack of Expiry Tracking: Users struggle to monitor the shelf life of perishable items, resulting in spoiled food that could have been used in time.
 3. Unplanned Grocery Purchases: Without visibility into what’s already in the fridge, users often purchase duplicate items, increasing waste and costs.
 4. Limited Meal Planning Support: Busy individuals find it challenging to plan meals around what they already have, leading to inefficiency in using stored food.
 5. Poor Integration with Lifestyle: Existing solutions, such as manual lists or standalone apps, fail to integrate seamlessly with users' routines or smart home ecosystems.

FreshSync aims to bridge this gap by offering innovative features designed to enhance food management, reduce waste, and promote sustainability in an effortless way.

Creating the UX research plan for FreshSync, the smart fridge app, was a structured and methodical process aimed at understanding the core user problems and needs. The goal was to ensure the app's design would provide meaningful solutions that addressed key pain points around food waste, inventory management, and meal planning. Below is an explanation of how I created the research plan and the methods I used to gather insights:

1. Defining Research Goals

The first step was to clearly define our research objectives. This ensured the process would yield valuable insights for the app's design. Our goals were:
